Seller's Notes:This Martha Washington sewing cabinet was produced by Aimone Manufacturing Company of New York — a firm that operated from the late 1870s as both an importer and domestic producer of decorative furniture — and dates to approximately 1900–1919. It is built in figured satinwood rather than the mahogany more typically associated with this American form, with hand-painted polychrome decoration in the Adam Revival manner applied individually to each of the three drawer fronts. The form follows the Martha Washington configuration: three central drawers flanked by curved open basket wing compartments, six turned tapering legs, and a three-section hinged top with crossbanded borders. Ribbon swags, rose clusters, bow motifs, and foliate ornament in greens, pinks, and gilt ornament each drawer front, centered on brass oval-plate pulls. Painted acanthus leaf decoration at each leg capital and painted foliate sprigs on the stiles carry the decorative vocabulary throughout the piece. The satinwood veneer shows a pronounced ribbon-stripe figure across all surfaces. A well-documented piece with a known maker and a clear decorative tradition, suited to a bedroom, dressing room, or sitting room.
