Art Deco Illuminated Fireplace With Matching Tools
Product details
Seller's Notes:Back in the 1980s, the Soho boutique Depression Modern was the place to find vintage Art Deco furnishings. This mahogany and copper mantel piece was acquired there in 1986 (original provenance unknown), and two years, later the shop owner, Michael Smith, called that he had found copper andirons, tools and fender to complete the set. The mantel has been rewired with a fluorescent light to cast an even glow, rather than the single incandescent bulb included originally; it is controlled on a cord that is hidden behind the mantel. The mahogany is sealed and pristine, requiring only wiping down with a damp cloth; the fender has scratched the copper side panels at the very bottom. As an ironic comment on the faux fireplace, an artist painted an encaustic matchbook for the hearth; we would consider selling it as well.
