Seller's Notes:Set of five Artek 611 chairs, freshly restored rewoven in black herringbone. In production for almost a century, this lot comes from Finland, in 2002 (see photos for label). Available in the MoMA design store for $1,000+ per chair, selling the lot for a discount. From MoMA: One of Alvar Aalto’s first modern furniture designs, Chair 611 was conceived in 1929 as a practical chair for everyday use in almost any environment. The frame is made of solid birch wood while the seat and seat back are constructed from sturdy woven 100% linen. A sustainable fabric, the linen is light and breathable with subtle duo-tone colors that create an interesting optical effect. The fabric webbing yields when sat on, making the Chair 611 extremely comfortable. The chair can be easily rewoven, adding to its lifespan and is stackable up to five chairs. The legs have mounted felt glides. Made in Finland, Chair 611 has been in continuous production since 1929 and measures 31.5h x 19w x 19.25”d. Both Alvar Aalto and the chair’s manufacturer, Artek, have work in MoMA’s collection.

Chair 611 brings together a solid birch frame with a woven fabric seat and backrest. Designed to offer comfort and practicality, the fabric webbing yields to the sitter, making the chair exceptionally comfortable. Chair 611 can be easily reupholstered, which means the chair can have many life cycles. One of Alvar Aalto’s first modern furniture designs, Chair 611 has been in continuous production ever since its creation. Suitable for almost any environment, Chair 611 stacks up to four chairs.
