Framed and Matted Lithograph in great condition. Raymond Warsager, who uses only his first name professionally, found fame painting sport stars instead. A native of Brooklyn, Raymond was born into an artistic family. Both his father and grandfather were recognized artists and his father’s work hangs in the Whitney Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He attended The Pratt Institute of Art in New York City and the Art Institute of Miami focusing on illustration and commercial art. He spent six years as a professional illustrator and his work often appeared in magazines. It wasn’t until he began combining his love of athletics and his love of painting, however, that his distinguished career took off. The popularity of his work led to exclusive contracts with Muhammad Ali, Bjorn Borg and Bob Griese. Using an impressionistic rather than realistic style, Raymond captured the grace and motion as well as charisma and personality of famous athletes. Art critics noted that Raymond was to sports what Frederic Remington was to the West.
