Seller's Notes:Dimensions: Approximately 70 x 90 inches / 5'10" x 7'6" Machine-woven wool Axminster rug produced in Denmark by Ege Art Line. Authorized Andy Warhol “Diamond Dust Shoes” rug from the Ege Art Line 20th Century Masters Rug Collection (Axminster) Based on Warhol’s iconic 1980 composition, the design features a vivid arrangement of pumps and shoes in cobalt blue, red, orange, blush and green against a black ground. The rug retains its woven Andy Warhol signature and original manufacturer’s label identifying the design as “Diamond Dust Shoes,” Design No. 80501. Excellent vintage condition with strong, saturated color and a full, even appearance. Manufactured under authorization from the Andy Warhol Foundation. A highly decorative and collectible example of late-20th-century Pop Art textile design. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, “Axminster” evolved into the name for a mechanized woven-carpet construction. In an Axminster weave, individual colored tufts are selected and woven into the backing as the carpet is made. This permits complex, multicolored imagery while creating a dense and durable structure. This rug was produced by Ege, the Danish carpet company founded in Herning in 1938. “Ege Axminster” refers to the company and/or the woven production technique it use; not to an English antique-carpet workshop. Ege later acquired Axminster looms and became known for translating modern art and graphic designs into woven carpets.
