Antique 4' Ornate Forged Iron & Copper Andirons

Seller's Notes:I am offering you "a PAIR of European Hand Forged Iron & Copper Andirons. I had then appraised in the 1980s by an independent appraiser. They are probably 15 or 16th century. The Basket tops hold covered copper bowls. These were used as bed warmers in their time. There are Swirl molded standards with chain and animal head handle. There are also Hooks and cross bars & Arched supports. The height is 43 inches high to finials on bowl lids." They are identified as Spanish or Mediterranean in design. These andirons are easily accessible when sold but presently in storage so the width and depth are approximates, even though the chain allows for varied widths. The height of these andirons reflect the large walk-in size of the antique fireplaces that were used for cooking, heating homes and heating coals for bed warmer pots. Many antique homes that are used as historic museums today or Restaurants or B & Bs are missing this essential showpiece. Most of them were melted down during WW1 and possibly WW2 to create ammunition. I loved them in my home where I proudly showcased them on the sides of my entry gates to the living room.
