Seller's Notes: This vase has every characteristic sought by collectors. It is a Japanese Satsuma ware moriage vase, from the late 19th or early 20th century, the Meiji period (1868-1912). This porcelain vase has two handles and a fluted top. It features intricate, hand-painted designs with heavy use of gold embellishments, including panels with floral motifs and stylized birds. The glaze is smooth and lustrous, the flowers, petals, stems and birds are raised enamel or moriage giving it a three dimensional textured effect. Notice the “M” inside the wreath. This was used by the Morimura Brothers on Nippon porcelain. The mark validates the piece was hand-painted and produced between the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Key Features and Characteristics of this vase are: Moriage Technique: The defining feature is the raised, beaded, or paste-work decoration, created by applying clay slip to the surface before firing to produce a 3D texture. Time Period & Markings: Items from 1891–1921 are typically marked "Nippon", identifying them as Japanese exports. Design Motifs: Common designs include intricate gold, enamel floral motifs, geishas, samurai, or landscapes. Materials: These are often earthenware with a, creamy, crackled glaze (classic Satsuma) or porcelain, commonly with heavy gold gilding and, occasionally, "jeweled" or beaded accents. These vases are prized for their detailed, handcrafted, and elaborate designs. The "Nippon" era (1891-1921) is particularly sought after by collectors for its high-quality, export-oriented artistry. Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity.
